You Are Missing the Point

My friends said that to me a couple weeks ago. That people with ADHD should just learn to control themselves. I got offended, and left.

It's not that easy. Basically, the problem is that they can't "just control themselves". It really pissed me off. They also said a lot of other ignorant things at the time.

(rant time!)
We were discussing our English standard exams, and it came up that some girl who had ADHD got to write her exam last year separate from others. Apparently, she used this opportunity to cheat. The problem with this, is that it's harder to cheat when you're writing away from everyone else. You're not sitting by anyone. You're constantly supervised, and it's easier to be caught cheating when one person is supervising at most 5 people than two supervising over 30. The only way I could think of to cheat, would be in a manner that anyone could use, whether they got to write it away from everyone else or not.

They then went on to say that nobody should be allowed to write their exam away from others. They said that no one should get "special privileges" like that. That no one should get extra help. (just because this one girl allegedly abused it.)This really offended me. I get to write exams away from everyone else. I said this, and you know what they said? They said "maybe other kids have the same problem. But they don't get to." and I replied "Well, if they asked for help, let the schools know that it's a problem for them, they could probably get provisions as well." Their argument? That the people are too "proud" to ask for help. Well that's their own fault. You're not going to get help if you don't ask for it.

They also pretty much said that the kid with dyslexia so bad he needs his exam read out loud with him? He shouldn't get that. He should suffer through not being able to read the questions, the text, and have no clue what to do. Nor should the blind kid. They say that nobody should get to type it on a computer even though no one can read their writing, and it physically hurts them to write. They say that that kid with a learning disability shouldn't get help to overcome it. That they should suffer through not being able to do something, with no one to help them, that they should never learn how to overcome it.

On that day, I was ashamed of those people.

Like, seriously, you're one of my heroes.

My friends ship me with this one guy at school who has problems because they think I'm falling in love with him! Also, most people ridicule him too.
